Socks are knit here and spun somewhere else
Half the makers in this list qualify their own claim, and the qualifier is almost always the yarn. A sock can be knit, finished and packed in one American building out of fibre grown on another continent, and most of these companies say so.
Thorlo fits two qualifiers into one sentence: "the vast majority of our products are made in the USA of domestic and imported yarns." That is a limit on how many products, and a limit on what they are made of.
Wigwam says all of its socks are knit domestically and that the vast majority of its material comes from domestic partners. The knitting claim is unqualified. The materials claim is not, and the remainder is left undescribed.
Point6 puts the fibre in the same phrase as the factory: "Compact-knit New Zealand Merino, made in the USA."
The plain claims
Kentwool, FITS, DeFeet and Smartwool state American manufacture without attaching anything to it. Where a maker says nothing about materials, this site records the claim it made and not the one it did not.
