American clothing, shoe and sock makers
A map of three shelves, each with its own page. What this page adds is the shape of each one, because clothing is where the qualifier does the most work on this whole site.
American clothing manufacturers
14 makers: 8 made in the USA as claimed; 2 made in the USA with a qualifier; 1 from a manufacturer operating in the USA; 1 made outside the USA; and 2 varying by product.
American boot and shoe manufacturers
6 makers: 2 made in the USA as claimed; 3 from a manufacturer operating in the USA; and 1 varying by product.
American sock manufacturers
12 makers: 8 made in the USA as claimed; and 4 made in the USA with a qualifier.
A garment passes through more countries than a frying pan
Cotton is grown somewhere, spun somewhere, knitted or woven somewhere, dyed somewhere, cut and sewn somewhere, and the thread, buttons and elastic come from somewhere else again. A company can honestly say it makes clothes in America and mean only the last two steps.
That is why socks sit on their own shelf rather than inside clothing. The sock makers almost all name the yarn, because for a sock the yarn is most of the product, and that makes them the clearest worked example of a qualifier anywhere here.
