Where these manufacturers actually are
A company appears under a state below only because it named that state itself, in a sentence already quoted on one of these pages. Nothing here is inferred from a head office, a mailing address or a brand name.
Read it as "this maker mentioned this state", not "this maker's factory is here". Some companies name a partner or a supplier rather than themselves. Stormy Kromer appears under four states for that reason: its factory is in Ironwood, Michigan, and in the same paragraph it names a knitting mill in New Jersey, a ballcap manufacturer in North Carolina and a screen printer in Wisconsin. That is a supply chain being described, and it is worth more than a single pin on a map.

Why a town beats a country
"Made in the USA" is a claim about a country, and a country is hard to check. "Made in Clarksville, Tennessee" and "Handcrafted in Cambridge, Ohio since 1971" are claims about a building. They are easier to verify, harder to write by accident, and more expensive to get wrong.
The makers in this list who name a place tend to be the ones who also name their qualifiers. That is not a coincidence. A company willing to tell you which town it works in is usually willing to tell you where its steel came from.
What this page is not
It is not a map of American manufacturing. It is a map of what the manufacturers recorded here have said, and the directory is still small and still growing.
A state appearing once means one maker here named it, not that one factory exists there. A state missing entirely means nobody in this directory has mentioned it yet.
