Where Tervis tumblers are made
Tervis sells a tumbler with an American flag on it that is made in America. It also sells a tumbler with an American flag on it that is made in China. Both are on the same site, in the same aisle, under the same brand.
Here is what Tervis says about each one.
| Product | Origin | The maker’s own words |
|---|---|---|
| American Flag 10 oz wavy tumblerClassic Tritan line | Made in USA, as claimed | Each classic tumbler is proudly made in America and backed by a |
| Americana USA Flag 20 oz stainless tumblerStainless steel line | Made outside the USA | Manufactured in China. Designed in and shipped from Florida, USA. |
Tervis states the split itself
This is not something a reader has to piece together. Tervis publishes it on its own Made in America page, in a footnote under the products:
All Tervis drinkware products are designed and decorated in the USA. Tervis classic drinkware products are made from BPA/PFAS free Tritan material in the USA. Tervis stainless steel drinkware products, melamine products and some accessories are imported from China. See product details for more information.
That sentence answers the question completely. Classic Tritan is American. Stainless steel is imported. The company says so in plain words and tells you where to look.
What the artwork does not tell you
The two tumblers in the table are both patriotic products. One is called American Flag. The other is called Americana - USA Flag. Neither name, and neither design, carries any information about where the cup was made.
The origin line sits in the care and materials list under the price, among the notes about dishwashers and freezers. On the stainless tumbler it reads "Manufactured in China. Designed in and shipped from Florida, USA." On the classic tumbler, the same slot says the tumbler is proudly made in America.
A shopper choosing between them by appearance has no way to tell. A shopper who opens the product details has the answer in one line.
Checking any Tervis product yourself
Open the product page and scroll past the price to the bulleted details, the ones covering cleaning and microwave safety. The origin statement sits in that list.
If the material is Tritan, the Tervis footnote puts it in the USA. If the material is stainless steel or melamine, the same footnote puts it in China. The product page confirms which, and that is the line worth reading before the artwork.
