A company built on American manufacturing, saying it moved
Green Toys made its name turning recycled milk jugs into toys in the United States. Its story page now says this:
While we began manufacturing exclusively in the USA, today, we responsibly produce our toys in carefully selected facilities both domestically and abroad.
Began exclusively. Today, domestically and abroad. Nothing about that is hidden, it is on the company's own story page under its own heading, and Green Toys goes on to say it still prioritises American production.
It is the second time this site has found exactly that shape, after ALLIED Cycle Works moved two bicycle frames to Asia and published a long post explaining why. Both are the same argument for putting a date on every quote: a directory that read either company once and never went back would still be calling it American today, and would have no way of knowing it was wrong.
Naming the line that is not American
Springbok tells you which of its puzzles are not made here, by brand:
Larsen-branded children's puzzles, which are crafted by a trusted overseas partner meeting our rigorous quality standards.
TEDCO does the opposite kind of thing, and it is easy to miss. Its page is headed "Educational Toys Made in the USA", and the sentence underneath reads "when you choose one of our educational toys made in the USA from our core line of products". The core line is not the catalogue, and which toys are in it is not said.
The clearest four words on this page
TAG Toys: "All products manufactured in the USA at our California factory. We do not outsource."
Most makers never mention outsourcing at all, because the word invites the question. Lapps claims the sourcing as well as the making, "sourcing, manufacturing, and shipping only within the U.S." American Plastic Toys says every single toy in its catalogue is engineered, molded and assembled in Kentucky.
And the thinnest
Simplay3's claim is four words in a shop banner: "American Made, Veteran Owned". Maple Landmark's is three: "Made In The USA". Both are the companies' own words and both are recorded as exactly that, with nothing added.
Crayola gets a weaker label than its reputation suggests, for a precise reason. It says its "world headquarters and major manufacturing facilities are located in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania", and major implies others. The same paragraph lists offices in Australia, Asia, Canada, Italy, Mexico and the United Kingdom without saying what happens in them. That is enough to say a manufacturer operates here. It is not enough to label a crayon.
